CA’ FOSCARI SHORT FILM FESTIVAL 13
VENICE – MARCH, 2023. Ca’ Foscari Short Film Festival is the first festival in Europe to be organized by university students, guided by a host of renowned professors of film and performance studies, alongside Roberta Novielli, artistic director of the Festival. As an important reference point for multimedia cinema, the Festival invites filmmakers to participate in its International Competition, the heart of the event. This year 30 of the best short films from 28 countries will be screened.
In our thirteenth edition we have the pleasure of hosting great guests such us Bruno Bozzetto, Hirokazu Kore’eda, Amos Gitai and Rob Savage, masters of their craft who will be interviewed and will present their latest projects.
Among these 30 short films, it is important to highlight the short AWEL MARA – Holy Mother by director Hussein Hossam from the Prague Film School. The play depicts in a crude, borderline splatter way the reality of a Muslim girl living in a European city. On the one hand, she is mocked by her classmates for her cultural heritage, and on the other she is forced to make extreme decisions to escape the wishes of her conservative and traditionalist family, who would like her to be married to a man of their choice and with a destiny already written.
The Festival will host the Cinit Music Competition that will present nine of the best music videos directed by students from universities and film schools from all over the world. The second contest is the 10th High School Competition, in which high school students from all over the world will participate.
The Czech Republic also stands out as a finalist in the Clint Music Video Competition with the video of Joshuš Motuš, Zpívají, Johus Matus Songsinghing by Julie Černá and Johana Novotná (Prague Academy of Fine Arts). An animated music video for the music of Johus Matus, guiding the viewer into a rural world through a train journey.
The Czech Republic also participates as a finalist in the high school competition with ÚZkosti – The Anxieties by Anežka Kozlová and Matyáš Lada, a documentary presenting ten testimonies of people who have suffered and overcome anxiety, a mental state defined in many ways: a feeling of sinking, darkness, malaise, anxiety, fear…
The Festival is honored to be partnering with the Foundation of Venice with the support of NH Venice Rio Novo, the National Cinema Museum of Turin, the Italian ‘short’ on-demand cinema platform WeShort, the oldest prosecco producer factory Carpenè-Malvolti, Cinit – Cineforum Italiano, the Municipality of Venice – Murano – Burano, the “Arrigo Pedrollo” Conservatory of Music in Vicenza and the Days of the light of Spilimbergo, a festival dedicated to the masters of photography of Italian cinema.
